So, I know I've brought this up a few times and haven't gotten much response, but I would really like to bring in an ACM distinguished speaker to our club. It would be a really cool experience, since many of these people are really well-known academics in our field and would have a lot to share with us. I was able to go to a talk by Bjarne Stroustrup at Kent State a few years ago, and I think it would be great if we could offer members of our own club and our department a similar opportunity now.

There is a list of speakers and topics here: http://www.dsp.acm.org/view_countries.cfm?country=USA.

A lot of them sound very over our heads. The most interesting ones, in my opinion, are focusing on the field of computer science: where have we been, where are we headed, and what impact are we having on the world at large? There are lots of other really interesting topics, too, though, including gaming, the gender gap, open source software, and much more.

I've sent Dr Chan the list and asked him for feedback, but I would really like to hear from you guys about who you would like us to bring in.

My personal top pick would be Maria Klawe, if we can get her to come in. Her speeches are all about gaming, with a focus on girls and gaming. I worked with someone who went to her school over the summer, and heard nothing but good things about her.
