Meeting for 2009-10-07

10/07/2009 16:30
America/New York

Meeting phase 1: How do you amuse a room full of computer people? Give them an irobot to play with. :-)

Trever passed out shirts. They are $18. Bring money next week if you didn't get yours yet

Ashtan carries duct tape. Behave accordingly.

We're still collecting forms for Child's Play consoles and other equipment.

We're also still working on getting gift cards and other donations from local places. The exchange is probably an option, but gamestop is probably not because they're very corporate.

We'll be doing preregistration for Child's Play at tables in the Union soon.

CS department wants to pay people to make a shiny brochure for the department. If you're interested, talk to Dr Chan or Trever.

Dr Chan is also trying to set up communications with alumni from the department. He's looking for someone to moderate an alumni forum. Also, he's working on a document repository for theses. If you can help with other of these things, talk with him.

We somehow got off an a tangent talking about LaTeX.

There will be a candlelight vigil for Sam Rohn at 8PM tonight , by the fountain on north campus.

Trever did a "wheeee" turn. It was amusing.

We may be doing a LAN as planned on Saturday. If we do it, it will probably be in CAS 254 from 10-10, but we would need to see about getting the room. Check the forums for more details later.

Trever wants to create a toaster that duplicates hard drives. He drew us a pretty picture. Bring in and/or donate stuffs if you want to make this happen. Trever has the toaster.

Dr Chan sent us a new person: Brian! He's a freshman. We all introduced ourselves to him. And we hoped that the toaster and/or our natural craziness didn't scare him away. :-)

... And the meeting dissolved into chaos

I think we're reaching the upper limit of members we can have in our tiny CS lab.

We did have meetings in the Union at one point... I don't remember why we switched...

But yeah, if meetings get much bigger, we'll need to move somewhere bigger.

I think it was due to the lazy nature of most CS students not wanting to walk all the way over there when it wasn't required. Also it's more fun in 254 with the whiteboard and everything. :P

True. But hey, the CS dept says they have $500,000 to renovate the floor plan. Eventually we'll have one gigantic CS lab.
